Can someone PLEASE edit and offer suggestions for the Third part of my essay, please......it is due

Although some people would not believe that a mere sport like tennis could have such a positive impact on the virtues that I posses, I believe that I have proved them wrong, as tennis has had an impact on my life that is so large, not even I can fully grasp it.

Watching their bodies sway in a perfect motion. Their footwork so magnificent, it is almost as if they are fragile ballet dancers performing Swan Lake. Their shots and strokes are so precise; it is almost like they were programmed by computers. These are some of the characteristics of tennis professionals, my personal idols. From the earlier legends, to the more recent tennis sensations, I have been transfixed and inspired by so many of them. Some of my earliest memories of tennis trace back to when I was three years old, watching Pete Sampras or Monica Seles on T.V with my parents. The way these professionals played tennis was like a dance, or work of art, and I wanted to be just like them. To this day, although my tennis idols have changed, I still greatly admire these incredible human beings, and it would be my greatest wish to accomplish some of the great feats that these legends have accomplished. The way the crowd cheers when Novak Djokovic wins the Australian Open, is so touching that it brings goosebumps to my skin. The way kids yearn to be like Roger Federer or Justine Henin, is what I want for myself, I want to be a tennis legend. Although having my face on cereal boxes or on the cover of “Sports Illustrated” would not be a bad thing, what I really want is to play with the best in the world, and to inspire other children to play tennis, just like my idols have inspired me.

As you can probably tell from reading my essay, tennis is an incredibly large part of my life, and a sport that I adore with a passion. If I will go on to become some tennis professional, that I don’t know for sure, however, what I do know is that I will continue to play this phenomenal sport until the day that I die. I could go on forever and ever to talk about how much I love this sport, as I love truly everything about it. I delight in the sensual delight of hitting a ball right in the middle of my racquet, and feeling no vibration; a sweet shot. I love the precision, dedication, fitness, passion, sweat, hours of training, and most of all: the feeling of accomplishment when I win a match. There is nothing that can compare and surpass this incredible feeling! All in all, I love tennis because it is such a part of my past, my present, my personality, and hopefully my future……………………..(can some one help me think of a really good concluding sentence please!?)

Can someone PLEASE edit and offer suggestions for the Third part of my essay, please......it is due tomorrow?passions soap opera

Someone once said, "all of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them." I believe this and as I continue to follow this dream of mine, I will build up more and more courage to hopefully fulfill this goal of becoming a professional tennis player.

That is an actual quote, I'm just not sure who said it...Hope this is helpful..

What is your view of destroying Barbies for pleasure or for creating artistic expression ?

I have seen countless videos on My Space, YOUTUBE, and other sites of Barbies being destroyed through various methods. Is seeing it or actual participating in such activity acceptable behavior? There orften is laughter or approval by the participants in them. Kat Surth has a video on My Space which envolves her destroying Barbies in the name of art. She is quite pleased as she performs this activity on camera. This is quite evident as she breaks them in half and removes several heads. Her photographic work is being displayed in an art gallery showing next month. http://vidsearch.myspace.com/index.cfm?f... An FBI profiler has said years ago that mutilating Barbies leads to mutilating real women.

What is your view of destroying Barbies for pleasure or for creating artistic expression ?movie theater

The psychological imbalance comes first, then the mutilation of Barbies, Kermit frogs, live kittens and puppys etc. Breaking apart of anything, framing it, and displaying it as "art" is neither here nor there.

Barbie Dolls were contrived by its inventor to indoctrinate little girls into a life of shopping for clothes, makeup, shoes, cars, Kens etc. Breaking them apart and displaying them as "art" is probably a conscious or unconscious desire to express a contempt for such indoctrination and brain washing of our young people.

When kicking, why can I not keep my leg straight?

I recently started practicing martial arts (Kung Fu) and while I realise that technique, posture and balance will all improve with time my kicks are suffering from something and I think I will have to do something beyond regular practice to improve.

When I lift my leg to perform the waist-high kicks in Tan Tui I have no chance of reaching high enough while keeping my leg straight. If I keep my leg straight I can barely get it 5" off the ground.

At that point, there is a stretch in my upper gastrocnemius (or lower hamstring, I feel it in tendons at the back of the knee joint) and I feel tension rather high up in my front thigh. I can hold the position for probably 3-5 seconds before my leg starts shaking.

Now I suspect I need to work on both flexibility in my calves and strength in my thighs, does this sound right? And, is there anyone out there who have overcome this problem who can share some strength/exercise routine that worked?

Thanks!

When kicking, why can I not keep my leg straight?comedy club opera theater

Yes, I have a similar problem: my legs are very tight and inflexible, and so I cannot extend my leg completely straight. Work on stretching your whole body....but after you have had a warmup or after your workout. Hamstring stretch would be seated, stretching your hands towards your toes (seated rather than standing reduces pressure on your back). Another hamstring stretch is to lie in a doorframe and make an L with your legs: the leg you're stretching should lean against the doorframe, while the other leg is resting on the ground. Calf/gastrocnemious....stand close to a wall and put your foot agaist it so your toes are pulled back and upwards towards your body. Or, stand on a step, etc with your heels hanging off. It sounds like you've been working on your stretching, but it make take time and more stretching to see results. I stretch a little before and a lot after running, and still continue to be tight. Some degree of tightness comes from being strong and having those muscles contract. You just want enough flexibility to move joints and muscles easily during a workout, and not so tight that injuries occur.
hi there you are on your way to kicking straight. flexibility

strengthing your knee. is a good start. those muscles in the knee need to be worked on, hamstring is tuff, do not forget to stretch before and after all workouts, very important

I'm a 21 year old ambitious student, and I want an artistic hobby, something cool?

No arts and crafts like those done in the second grade, or really cheesy things, something that I can perform or show that has tangible results and is not too expesive to get started on.

photography - always cool plus you have great art to hang on the walls and you can always sell it if they are good and make some extra money.

Make jewelry. You can start out with simple materials, and you can make REALLY cool stuff!

Or you can get a second hand guitar and "make beautiful music".....now what can be cooler than that?
Get started in puppetry. It may sound little kidish but its not. You need to be very skilled to produce beautiful puppets and performing is also something which takes time to master, but is rewarding.
Try a musical instrument. you must like music
nude modeling? .. I mean you don't have to buy clothes so everything is cheap..and you get a breeze every once and awhile!
Try Artistic Metal Working, aka artistic blacksmithing. The national group is the Artist- Blacksmith Association of North America at (ABANA.com). I have enjoyed the hobby for over 33 years.
You should try quilting! You can start pretty cheaply - I started by buying remnants at a local fabric store. All you need is fabric, needle, and thread - a sewing machine isn't even really required to get started.

There are a bazillion free quilt patterns on the web. It's a very creative and tactile hobby! If you're hand-piecing your blocks, it's also very portable. You can go as cheap or as expensive as you like - it's all about your creativity. You don't even have to make a big quilt, you can make table runners, wall hangings, even Christmas ornaments!

If you're not sure you'd be interested, do a Google search to see if you can find a locally sponsored quilt show to attend. Or use the phone book to find a quilt shop near you and stop in there to see what the ladies are making. Typically it is NOT your grandmother's quilt anymore! I'm hooked and have been for more than 12 years. It's a lifetime hobby!

Here are some of my favorite sites to get you started:
knitting seems to be the hip thing to do lately and jewelery making with beach glass. beach glass you can pick up on the beach for free! and knitting would result in some new clothes!
Fly a kite.

I'm not joking, I'm not sure if you know they're are more than

one line kites. A dual line kite Would be the one you want to try first. You're in control of the kite, you can turn, dive, do loops. There's also quad line kites. It flies like the dual line kite, but the cool thing about this type of kite is that you can stop it in flight and even fly backwards.

Kites have changed, Not like the old daimond kite we all had as kids. If you want a challenge, try flying these type of kites. You can get a real work out. Some of these kites, depending on how strong the wind is, can generate pull of 50 pounds to at least 200 pounds. Yes, these kites do pull hard.

Beading/jewelry making, knitting (or crocheting if that your thing) and scrapbooking are the major trends in arts and crafts right now. I'm 22 and I do all three. I find scrapbooking to be the most creatively satifiying whereas I love the instant gratifaction I get with jewelry making and its easy to sell pieces you make but then again there is just something so relaxing about knitting not to mention scarves, hats, shawls etc... make the most wonderful gifts.

jewelry making and beading can be an expensive hobby to start. a basic tool kit can easily set you back 30-50 bucks, plus the cost of the beads which really do add up in the beginning. You can sell pieces you make eventually though and that can help off set the cost. if you buy a lot of costume jewelry then you might actually save some money in the long run. its a lot harder to justify a jewelry purchse when you can make the same thing yourself, and your would probably turn out a lot nicer.

scrapbooking is fun and a great way to preserve your photos and mementos. you dont need much to start. some photos, a scrapbook (its best to start with and 8"x11" inch instead of the standard 12"x12". the papers are cheaper and its less daunting), some acid free papers and maybe some embellishments like stickers or stamps, scrapbooking glue and a good pair of scissors. Scrapbooking is the kind of craft where you can gradually build up your tool box rather than go and get everything before you start. You can just dip your toe in and see if you like it and if you dont your only out about 20 bucks and you have a lovely keepsake either way.

If your looking for minimal investment, then knitting/crochet is the way to go. A set of needles or a hook is about 3 bucks and a ball of yarn is another $2. You can teach yourself with online videos for free. www.knittinghelp.com is my personal favourite for knitting, I dont crochet so I don't know any sites off hand but I do know there are several out there. There's a never ending stream of free patterns online or books at your local library and theres something so satifying about putting on something you made with your own two hands or giving someone you care about something warm and snuggly. Yarn crafts do take longer to complete than most others but I find the results are worth the work esp. if you live in a cold climate and you put on that scarf that took you 12 hours make every single day and everytime someone compliments you on it, the works seem worth it all over again.

I hope I was helpful and good luck!
Why not try your hand at Polymer Clay! I make cutesie beads, but there are so many things you can do with it! I would suggest Premo! brand, or Kato, or you can mix them. Here is some of my work with it! : http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/AlbumInd...

You can get Premo! at your local craft store. And here is a website that has TONS of cool ideas on what you can do with it other than just beads! http://polymerclaycentral.com/
Origami!!! It's not lame! It's a beautiful art of paper folding that teaches you patience and precision, and the better you get, the more complicated and intricate your final results will be. Plus it's cheap... All you have to do is buy paper! I know it may not sound all that great, but in school, students and teachers sometimes watch me fold paper from my notebook into a turtle or flower or something, and they sit amazed. It really takes skill to learn to do all of the folds right, but it's worthwhile. I think this is a good hobby, but maybe painting, bird house making, sewing, crocheting, beading, key chain making, or baking may catch your interest. Whatever you do, make sure it's something you enjoy!!!

Help with "guys and dolls" set?

my school is putting on a production of guys and dolls, and we can't figure out how to do the sewer scene. we have EXTREMELY limited wing space and no way to stow things above (you know, the screen things). a panel with a sewer backdrop is too big to fit, and we run out of ideas after that. we could always opt for a cop-out solution, like having a water-dripping sound effect and perform in front of the closed curtain, but it would be great if there were other options. oh, and my school is very much over-focused on athletics, so the arts don't get a whole lot of funding. thus, any reasonable solution would have to be cheap.

if anyone could suggest something, that would be awesome. thanks!

Help with "guys and dolls" set?imax theater

Do it with sound. Black backdrop, lower all lights to nil, dripping water sound effect, footsteps in shallow water sound effects, even a squeeky rat sound effect. Have the all the actors carry flashlights. If its dark enough, you can do some fun things with blocking the actors and the position of the lights as people enter/exit the scene.

www.findsounds.com will help you find ambient sounds like dripping water, sewer rat, and maybe even footsteps in water. I'd have one of my go-getter students or stage manager put together an MP3 loop you can play over the sound system (or mike a boombox if necessary).

Help with "guys and dolls" set?classical music opera theater

Since "Luck Be A Lady" is a big dance number, your choreographer will hate you if you do it in front of the main curtain - there's no room to dance!

If you have an upstage traveller curtain (preferably black) you could pin canvas painted to look like representative pieces of the sewer (pipes, etc) onto the curtain. Or paint a sewer backdrop and hang it on the traveller track.

You have no fly space, but could cut pipes out of luan (a very thin plywood panel) and hinge them to the ceiling so with a pull of a rope they are stowed out of the way flat to the ceiling and then swing down into place when needed.

Continuing with luan, you could cut large representative pieces and have the Hatbox Girls dressed as the gangster's molls holding them upright during the scene. They'd be flat and easily stored (the set pieces, not the girls).

You don't need to get too literal with the set, a suggestion of place is all that it really takes.
For my production we just used a standard painted flat with carpet tubes for pipes on it. We also used a smoke machine (just a little bit of smoke). The sfx idea is good, I like it, but that in and of itself is probably not enough alone. That's just an example from what we did, hope it helps.

What's the best talent that i can perfrom?

Hi guys, i really need your help. We will have a search for Mr. ECAS (English Communication, Arts and Skills) this coming January 23, 2008 (wednesday) but i don't know what's the best talent that i can perform. I used to compete in beauty pageants and they always said dancers were a dime a dozen. You also have to consider whether the judges are intelligent enough to recognize truly difficult dance steps. Also, good dancers make dance look easy, and that can count against you. If you can play the piano, or an instrument and sing, or write your own songs, that talent might be more easily appreciated by the judges. The key question is, "What will the judges think is the most difficult talent, and what talent can they easily understand?"

Dear Hassan....if you are going to impress with your communication you need help with your English. I'm sorry, if I had to do this in another language I would be far from perfect.

Becoming a doctor?

I have been interested in becoming a doctor for years. My school decided to do our GCSEs a year early and I did well and achieved:

A* - RE, A* - Geography, A - Maths, A - English Literature, A - English Language, A - Citizenship, A - Art, B - Biology, B - Chemistry, B - Physics, B - Spanish, C - ICT

I have recently started my A levels and I am doing Biology, Maths and Health %26amp; Social Care. Next year I will complete these A levels and take up Chemistry and Psychology. In the year after that I will complete these A levels and pick up AS Science for Public Understanding. After completing these course I hope to go to Kings College to study Medicine. I have been playing the piano for 7 years and have been doing drama at the Hazlett Youth Theatre for nearly 3 years. Both these have built up my confidence for being around other people and performing to the best of my ability. I have participated greatly at school and went to science club for a year....(continued)

Ok i am not 100% sure what you are asking. So you want to become a doctor with these qualifications. I think that you may have some trouble as the subjects that universities look for are all the sciences and you have not achieved the best score. I think that to be a doctor you may need A's and A*'s in these subjects. But don't let me getyou down. You may beable to get in uni as you have achieved good grades in many of your other subjects. I didn't mean to sound mean but I am just saying the truth as I know quite a few people wanting to be doctors and they could not get into uni even with grades better than yours. Hope I helped. Good luck in pursuing your career!

What is a good way to impress a high school director, for the play Annie, or any play really.?

it is my first year at this school, and i was really looking forward to the art department it offers. They said i shoudn't be discouraged, if i don't get into the play, and that it is only my first year there. However, i have been performing for a while now, and it seems the director keeps pushing me off. I dont want to say it is partly because my race, but it's hard to cast someone who doesn't fit the profile of a white person, when most of the castings are directed towards them( and that is understandable). I know its my first year, yeah yeah yeah, but seriously, if there is anything i can do besides my commitment i am trying to show him, what else?

What is a good way to impress a high school director, for the play Annie, or any play really.?mr messed up

With no offense I have some suggestions.

First of all you might temper your expectations a bit, and reach for smaller more easy to manage Goals.

Second, and hopefully you've mastered these: Acceptance, Tolerance, Compromise, and the ability to take rejections not as personal attacks, but as trophies.

Please, no matter your feelings, Don't play any Race card. Number one: it belittles you. Number two: it won't win a part, unless very specific to your race, and even then there may be competition. Number three: It certainly might impress a director, but negatively so.

Finally, "patience"

I suspect if this is truly a passion for you, whining and/or anger about being passed over will be less effective than continued effort to gain a part.

Best other advice,,, don't try to impress, just do what you do,,, although if anyone of any station does happen to give you feedback with regard to style, stage presence, etc. take that as a lesson, and refine yourself.

The commitment aside, and certainly one of color may not be cast as "Ms. Lily White" You will have to expand your "search" at some point, or research the upcoming pieces that might be best suited to include you. Another thought however is,,, Did you research the school and it's theater program before enrolling and beginning classes?

What is a good way to impress a high school director, for the play Annie, or any play really.?getting late opera theater

Go up to him and give him a really great *******
i saw that coming above.

wear some glow in the dark clothing i guess :)
Since this is your first year, I wouldn't be discouraged yet. You didn't mention how many shows the school has done this year, but I'll bet that "Annie" is most likely your spring musical, after having done just one fall production. While nobody will admit to it, on a High School or community theatre level there's a lot of pre-casting done. In fact, who you have to work with usually factors in to the shows that are chosen. Why you weren't chosen even for a chorus role in Annie is the question I'd have...

But, if you want to impress the director with your commitment to the theatre program, volunteer for the crew or some other aspect of the production. Prove yourself to be an asset, it'll go a long way.
just work your way up... I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with race. It could be an experience problem or talent... maybe the director is just waiting until you develop your talent more.

I just recently finished my 1st musical. My acting school is a very good one. In their summer camps I always got a speaking role and a singing solo... but once I auditioned for their Big musical I was only cast as the ensemble... I understood that I was probably going to be there anyway but I had my hopes up because I got called back for a good role. I understand once I develop my talent more and gain more experience more doors will open to me. Maybe a lead in a future musical or something... I'm sure it will be the same with you...
Really, commitment is the biggest thing I can think of. In my middle school, I had nearly always gotten big parts, so when I tried out for my first play in my new high school, I was expecting the same. Instead, I got in the ensemble. So I asked the director what I could do better/work on for next time,(even though I was kinda crushed). And that really impressed her. Also, I showed up to every practice I had to, and some I didn't have to.

So, besides commitment (which you should keep trying to show him, as much as you can), try asking what you can do better/ work on for next time, if you don't get it.
act very polite twords him...

if there are any other shows going on try and get on a crew for it to show him how hard you work

when you go to audition wear nice looking clothes and be polite...introduce yourself and say what song you will be singing...when your done say thank you ect..

GOOD LUCK!

What do you think of my essay?

When I am an adult ( I'll never grow up so I shall say when I'm an adult) I intend to be a happily married lesbian housewife (or wife of David Bowie) who not only writes novels, performs in community theater shows, teaches Queer literature and Queer history classes, studies genetics in her free time and eventual president. However because you wish to stifle my creativity I must choose one, and I choose to write about being a Queer lit/history teacher and Mom. Here is a day in that life:

"MOM!! WAKE UP YOU STUPID COW!!" My eight year old daughter Hermia screams in my ear.

"Yell in my ear and call me a cow again and I swear on all that is ******** holy I will take that class on the theories of Sigmund Freud."

"Is Sigmund Freud that dude who thinks every woman wants to sleep with her father?"

"Yup."

Hermia scrunched up in fear "I be good!!" she squeeled.

"Get out of here squirt" I said messing up her hair and grinning "I gotta get dressed." I stood up and streched and walked over to my wardrobe. I pulled out a light pink puffy blouse and a skirt reaching up to the top shelf and getting my rhinestone headband.

I jumped into the shower got washed, got out toweled off , got dressed and went downstairs.

My beautiful wife was bottle feeding our son, Lysander and Hermia was putting way too much maple syrup on her pancakes.

"Do you want to take over or - " my darling asked

"I'm going to take him to work today, so since I'll have to suffer from sore breasts all day you can finish."

"Can you take Hermia to school today? I'd do it but the bookstore is short staffed today."

"Sure. " I glanced at my watch "Oh damn, we're going to have to hurry, Hermia, take the plate with you, I'm going to be late for my first fricken class"

I walked over to my wife and took Ly in my arms and gave my wife a kiss as Hermia darted out the door.

I grabbed the diaper bag and put the keys to my car in my mouth and ran out following my rambunctious daughter.

She was already buckled into her seat in my mercedes and I handed her her brother to buckle him in.

I got behind the wheel, slammed the door and buckled myself in. I turned on the David Bowie CD I had in the player, put my key in the ignition and pulled out of the driveway.

I dropped Mia at school and started driving to the University.

When I got there I put Ly in his stroller and ran into the liberal arts building.

"Sorry I'm late." I said to my students as I walked into the room. " I have Ly today and... I'm sorry, I'm rambling, can someone tell me where we left off yesterday?"

A girl in the front row who was wearing a very clingy sweater bearing the school's logo raised her hand. "We were on the discussion of the Anita Bryant crusades."

"Ah thank you."

I managed to get through the day with Ly crying only twice. After about five more classes I drove home and was greeted with the site of the chinese delivery man on the stoop. 'Thank G-d, Chinese food HURRAH!'

I walked in the door to my house and sighed. I had a kick a ss life.

Sounds like a good story, though somewhat sentimental and not really a reflection of the gritty reality of a gay relationship, but, eh whatever.

Sorry to say it, but your essay sincerely lacks.
I like it! Very descriptive and detailed. Good job!!
You're so creative. Now I know who I want to write my biography. =)

I don't think this is an essay. I think you've written a narrative.

you're imagination is fun though... I don't fully understand the reason you have to highlight that you are a lesbian in your story as it's not an essay about sexual orientation.
No offense, but that's not exactly great. It's a good story (and I can see it happening) but it's not really an essay, it's a narrative. Other than that it's fine.
I could say that you need to grow up, but you said that you would never do that.

So I suggest this: WHEN (and IF) you ever become an adult, you will have kids and they will hopefully treat you the same way.

I like French music because I can feel the unique rhythm of the French language itself.

The creation of a stage that is simple and impressive and which shows an artistic sense is regarded by me as an art form all to itself.

I like Matt Laurent, the actor who, while performing in the U.S.A., portrayed Quasimodo, a man who falls in love with someone with whom he can never make love.

A bird that flies high discards many things to lighten its body, including its (inner child) (children). [I'm not sure of the expression desired here]

It's an instructive story of a bird who flies unwittingly. [not sure of the term "unwittingly" but I don't know the story so I can't substitute anything here. The sentence structure is correct, though]
I like French music, because I can feel the rhythms unique to the French language itself.

I also like the stage, because it is a simple way to display impressive artistry. Stagecraft is an art in itself for me.

I like Matt Laurent. While he was performing in the USA, he played Quasimodo, a person who fell in love with someone he could never make love to.

The bird sentences don't make enough sense to edit well.

You should try not to put many ideas into only one sentence. It is better to make many sentences, each with one idea, than to make one sentence with many ideas.
I enjoy the music of the French musical due to the unique French rythm i find within it, and the stage, which is simple yet highly impressive giving an artistic impression. I personally regard this as an art in itseIf.

I like Matt Laurent while he was performing in U.S.A who played the role of Quasimodo, caught in the pit hole of falling in love with someone who can never reciprocate his love.

Amherst Essay-Do I sound crazy?

''Art is man's constant effort to create for himself a different order of reality from that which he is given."

This was the quote I responded to for my Amherst essay. I'm a ballerina and I wrote about the freedom of performing. I have a history of depression and that is slightly touched upon in my essay. I was wondering if anyone would send me their e-mail and give me some feedback. I don't want to sound like a total nut case.

Thanks!

Amherst Essay-Do I sound crazy?concerts

I currently attend a school somewhat similar to Amherst (and have friends who attend A.) I also have a pretty significant history of depression.

I think the first topic/part of the essay is fantastic. However, being "honest" in your essay is a risky thing to do, no matter what school it is. Sometimes it pays off, and sometimes, well...it scares admissions officers off.

Is there a way to mention the sadness/related depression-isses, but downplay it? No matter what you decide to do, make it seem as if you have conquered it. There is a way to do this without being cliche in that "everything is rainbows and unicorns and sparkles" manner.

I ultimately didn't write about having depression at all because I felt like I was "lying," but we both know how insane college admissions are these days (my sister is a senior in high school.) The last think you want someone reading your essay to think is, "She sounds really talented...but could she be a liability?"

Shields and Yarnell, are they the last of a dying breed?

My 11 year-old and I saw Shields and Yarnell here in Southern CA last evening. They blew us both away! They are still doing the stuff they did in the 70's. Man are they both in great shape. They were funny and yet could do a mime that could envoke tears.

I had forgotten they are the ones Micheal Jackson copied when he would do the robot. Still nobody does it like them!

They are also very gracious with their older fans as well as the young ones. I am hopeful they will come back to TV and show off their talent to a whole new generation of kids. Mime isn't a dead art form!

A must see! Go to Youtube, I think that is the site that has an old clip of them performing. Also Robert Shields has a site too; www.robertshields.com

Even if I sang "Think of Me" with as much feeling as I could muster, would I be skipped ov

I am a soprano who has been singing and taking voice lessons for 5 years (since I was 9), and I am thinking about singing "Think of Me" from Phantom of the OPera for an audition for a small informal city youth arts camp. It doesn't really have to be anything special, though we were informed that we should try to make our selections emotional and with lots of feeling when we perform them. Even if I used all the expression I can in this song, will I be skipped over? Is this song considered too emotionless to leave an impression on the director of the camp (who will be judging us)? I'd like to hear your thoughts if you know the song.

Even if I sang "Think of Me" with as much feeling as I could muster, would I be skipped over at an audition?symphony

Go for it. It's an amazing song, and will sound great as long as you hit all the notes :) . Just make sure you think a great deal about subtext and body language. It works best if you can think of a situation which has nothing to do with the actual song; an objective you can achieve by the end - this will help to make you sound convincing. For example.... your boyfriend/best friend is about to leave (to Timbuktu or something :P), and you want to convince them not to - your objective for the end of the song would be to make him/her come back and hug you. You can also think of a more "practical" objective. Anyway, this will contribute to your body language as well, which will probably come to you automatically if you think of a strong subtext. In addition, make sure you breathe properly and have a strong focus.

Hope this helps :)

i just thought it would be hard to sing, but if u can nail it, go FOR IT!

GOOD LUCK!
Yes it can b emotional. But might i suggest "Wishing you were somehow here again" It wouldstill show off you're voice but also display more emotion than the other one.
"Think of Me" is actually a very emotional song. It is the plea of one lover to another to remember them on good terms, remember all of the good things they had together rather than the bad things, the things they will never get to share. To sing it with passion and with sorrow at the same time is difficult and if you perform the song well then your camp director should be moved. The music of the Phantom is very moving, hence the reason it is one of the longest running musicals on Broadway. Good luck and I hope that you get the part.
that is a good song to sing. but i'll say the phantom tore it UP! he had the best songs. go for it, think of me is a great song, i love it. by the way, the movie sucked. michael crawford and sarah brightman, the best!!
Well, I like that song. It's got the right kind of theme at least if you're looking for something emotional. If you have enough confidence to sing it then it will be great.

If you're looking for other suggestions, I've always liked Les Miserables. 'I dreamed a dream' and 'Fantie's Death: Come to Me' are beautiful. Plus 'On My Own' can have lots of feeling.

Which ever way you go - break a leg!
DON'T worry about the feeling. That's just the frosting on the cake. Bake a good cake. I'm saying sing it correctly.

When it sounds perfect musically, the feeling kind of "creates" itself. Practice it enough that you can sing it easily and make it look easy. If you look like you are trying hard to be good enough, you'll sound like that, and trying hard to be good enough is still not good enough.

Just relax and have it down to make it look easy.
I am VERY familiar with Phantom and I honestly think there are more emotional songs than Think of Me. TOM is kinda a coming of age song, but only has a few highs and lows. I'm sure you can sing it very well, but as an audition song I wouldn't use it in a professional session.

Aside from wishing - Maybe you can try the female part to Point of No Return or All I ask of you, just change the pronouns.

I heard this amazing solo version of all I ask of you that just made me cry.

Good Luck

Experienced! Doesn't it chafe your rear when you meet know it alls who acutally think they know

As a seasoned performer of the arts, I pride myself on being unlimitedly open to other ideas. I wasn't always that way. A time back, I thought Sondheim musicals were the only musicals that should EVER be performed... lol But, now, I am more mature, older. I understand that it takes all kinds, raw, trained, young, old, racially diverse, tone deaf, method and works in progress, to be able to create the world of theatre. There are countless tales from seasoned, now famous and admired actors who were told to get the hell off the stage, out of film, because they couldn't become anyone....

I just wondered, if you guys have any stories about wind bag professionals who told you you weren't ever going to 'make it'... yet here you are, still doing it and loving it? Is there anyone out there who WASN'T discouraged by the non know it alls of acting and theatre?

Experienced! Doesn't it chafe your rear when you meet know it alls who acutally think they know it all?comedy show

On the other side of that token, what about the ignorant ones who only want instant fame without doing any work? And I mean ANY work? They don't want to study their craft, they don't want to start with small jobs, in fact they want to choose the auditions they go on and limit them to one specific company. Many don't understand what it takes to make it and don't want to make any move whatsoever toward their goal except to post something here to the effect of "I want to be on Disney, make it happen for me" and when someone tells them exactly how to do that and the hurdles they may encounter with telling an agent they'll only work for one company, they choose a best answer that consists of, "go to the mall and wait for John Robert Powers to discover you, you go girl!"

Yet, many of us persist and give these kids real advice and don't just shove them off unless they continue to post the same inane questions because they didn't get what they want to hear. Not to mention the ones that attack us personally even though we've been where they hope to be and we know the ropes and are offering them real information. It's a shame our society has (or their parents have) spoiled them to the point where unless we wrap it up and present things on a silver platter, some of them think we are unworthy of giving them the advice they desire. It's never enough.

Others however are very grateful which is the only reason I continue to give the advice that I do. Now I'm wondering if you'll get a bunch of Disney wannabe fans :-) or if they won't bother to read your question.

That's my two cents.

No, actually I AM a windbag know-it-all who tells people to forget it. It's on my resume. It's great fun and it's always easier to criticize others than to improve yourself. And to cure a chaffed rear do what I did. Have a piece of mistletoe tattooed on the small of your back.

Does anyone knows what kind of performance is this?

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NrPCvKSL4w4

Of course, I know the name of the performance in the show, which is called "Enrapture" and I think its amazing. I love the girl "Illusia"s performance, I think is beautiful. And since I was little I wanted to do this kind of performance, but never got the chance, cuz from where I live, there're not many performance arts or circus school around. But I hope Im not too late to learn.

Anyway, I wanted to know how or what I have to learn to do stuff like this, and how it is actually called. And to actually perform in this kind of shows. I dunno if you understand hehe.

BTW! im a loyal yay!

THANX!!!!

Does anyone knows what kind of performance is this?events

Yes, Illusia is a beautiful character, but I think there's two things related to this. The art and the style.

About the art, is a kind of magic called Great Illusions. Magicians have specialties (same as doctors), and a Illusionist is the one who performs this big scale tricks, there's other types like manipulation, close up and card magic, mentalism, etc.

The illusion here called "Enrapture" is NOT a Criss Angel's original. Is a presentation of a "De Kolta Chair", created by french magician Bautier De Kolta in 1886.

That carries me to the next part: the style. If that magic is over 100 years old, how do you make it look like if it is a new creation? With style. Imprinting your own vision to a classic thing. That is what difference Criss Angel from David Copperfield and Ringling Brothers from Cirque du Soleil.

Finding your own style is the most difficult part of any performing art. That come with the years, and a lot of rehearsals. It's a journey of self discovery.

Perhaps you're more interested into the look of the performance than the magic itself. It doesn't matter. You can do that, with time and practice.

But the first thing you have to do is to define what kind of art(s) is the one you wants to perform: magic? dancing? acting? juggling? Because many of those are related to acting and/or dancing as a background. And once you have it clear, then you can focus on the style and looks of it.

I hope this helps. Good luck with your search!

therealmagicone

P.S.: Magic doesn't depends that much on "being really fast with your hands...". That's a myth (created by magicians by the way). Knowing how the mind works and how to fool it is far more important that the speed of your fingers!

Does anyone knows what kind of performance is this?home theatre opera theater

This is called magic, I call it fooling the eye, Chris is an illusionist, what you have to learn to do this is magic, to be very fast with your hands in order to fool people, it takes of years of practice to get this down just right to the point of people not seeing what it is that your doing, this is a talent that not too many have, you have to be very fast!!!!! I could never get into this, I don't know why, maybe it's the idea that someone is fooling me into thinking that I'm seeing something that I'm not, I don't like to be tricked, and once you find out how it's done it doesn't seem so clever anymore, sorry that I'm not into this, but I do like Chris !!!!!!!
This is Criss Angel! He's is one of the best modern magicians, what he does, is, well... magic! In this clip, he demonstrates his skills with contemporary dance, with his female helper/dancer. You'd probably want to learn gymnastics, or acrobatics for this kind of work.

I have trained a theater group ,dance troupe .How do i get an american promoter to take this talent to U.S.A?say yes

99% of it is PR you need to find a decent legit PR manager. Next step you need to do some research, what charities Kenya do business in the US, those are the companies you want to do entertain for, there will eventually be someone so blown away by your performance they will say "Wow we gotta showcase this in the US". Get a passport, each of your dancers will need to be cleared for entry into to the US, you need people to know you are there, build a website for your company post video productions so visitors can see you past performances, look for for African Arts organizations in the US contact them, send them DVDs of your troop, don't give up, it is not easy but it can happen!

How can I improve my balence, both generally and for fighting?

Hi :)

My balence is AWFUL. For example, if i'm walking in mud or ice, everyone else managed to stay upright and i'm always the one that lands on their behind. And if i'm walking along, and I look at a car going past or something, I veer into hedges and walls *laugh*

This affects my fighting, too. The other day, I had to do a very high kick and ended up losing my feet from under me and landing on my butt.

Are there any excercises or balences I can perform to improve this? I'm willing to practice daily, of course, and will adopt idea's and practices from any fighting or arts' style.

How can I improve my balence, both generally and for fighting?getting late

Yes, balance can be improved but that is not what you need to do to improve.

If you are using proper form than balance is irrelevant. Try lowering your center of gravity by having a wider stance, keep the hips low, lower yourself at the knee. Do not rise up and down. You should remain at one constant level.

Also, I am guessing that when you say fighting you meant sparring. Assuming as much, why are you kicking high? You said it yourself, you ended up on your behind. High kick are for show only, I would rather kick someone in the groin or legs than above their solar plexus. If I am going to attack high than I use my hands.

Think practical, not flashy. Kicks to the head are impractical.

When you are walking on unstable surfaces lower your center of gravity by bending the knee.

Try this sometime. Lift one leg up. With the standing leg, bend your knee so your height drops straight down. Now time yourself, how long can you stand like that?

Now try the same thing but straighten the standing knee up. Time yourself, compare the times and see what you learn.

How can I improve my balence, both generally and for fighting?regal theater opera theater

Try taking up yoga it may help with balance because there are many different stretching and controlled techniques used in yoga.... give it a whirl!
try a ballance board. I have recovered from a knee injury and play semi pro soccer, i used very small movements that didnt feel like they were doing much. Like a squat, only move like one inch.

Also running on soft sand will stregnthen up those stabilisers.
take taekwondo and yoga... two combination that will improve your balance, your fighting technique, and build up muscles
Simple balancing techniques:

Stand with feet together

raise up on the balls of your feet.

Count to ten

Lower back down. Repeat. 5 times

As you get better do for longer periods of time. (20, 30, 60 secs)

and more reps.

Another easy one is to stand up and raise one foot about 6 inches behind you and hold. See how long you can hold it.

Do the same thing with your other foot. You can hold your arms out if needed.

As you get better, keeping your leg fairly straight, raise your leg behind you 12" and lean slightly forward. Hold.

Keep raising your leg 6" as you get better. To increase difficulty, keep your arms at your side.
WDY_67 has give you a couple of good options. Also see what your teacher has to offer.
Do some stretching.

You wouldn't lose your feet if you're very flexible.

The easiest way/the fast ways to acquire balance is to put weights on your arms and legs and do shadow boxing while looking at the mirror.

You should feel very light and stable after you take off the weights.
I have two pieces of advice that should work wonders without spending anything: first, simply pay attention to your balance throughout the day. Check yourself from time to time as you are standing or walking--is your spine straight? Is your weight evenly distributed between your feet? Etc. Repeatedly correcting yourself and constantly paying attention to this detail will increase both your balance and your mental discipline.

Second, practice your kicking s-l-o-w-l-y. Hold on to a chair and practice above-the-head kicks so that, for example, your side kick takes about four seconds execute. As your form and balance improve through practice, gradually increase the speed of the kick; once you reach a more moderate speed with perfect form, ditch the chair.

Train hard!
There are alot of core products on the market now.

The balance board works really good. It is a piece of wood cut in a circle. It has a half a ball on one side. You try to stand on it keeping the sides from hitting the floor.

Also those big balls are good too.

To be a writer, part time or full time, what should one study in university?

I come from a really great fine arts school where a lot of successful alumni in all fields have come from. Still, I constantly hear from other departments and teachers that English will get anyone who studies it nowhere. I'm not sure whether to believe them or not. My current plan is to double major in journalism and theatre and minor in broadcasting. I plan to keep my journalism major but I'm still not certain about the other major and minor. I love to write and perform. I'm also a lyricist and working reporter. Is there still the possibility of me becoming an author if I study something like broadcasting and theatre?

Update the question to where you live and maybe someone can give you some local help.
just remember if you are taking kickboxing you normally kick with your shin and the power comes from the core(hips, abs, thighs) oppose to the snapping motions that are found in most taekwondo kicks.

for proper technique you have to torque your body, slightly pivot on your nonkicking foot, twist your hips, and swing the same arm as the leg you are kicking with back(if you are kicking with your right leg swing your right arm back-you dont have to but it will give you more power just make sure you are keeping the opposite hand up for protection), dont forget to breathe out during each kick, and keep your toes and foot parallel to your leg otherwise you might jam it kicking the person.

other than that just watch some people do some of the kicks and remember the above techniques

the main kicks i use are roundhouses, front/push kick, maybe reverse roundhouse and side kick

you might be able to pull off cresent kicks, spinning hook kicks, and more advance kicks but kickboxing is pretty simple and the kicks are to fancy but very effictive; dont forget to get your punching game up to cuz when i kickbox i use punching more than kicking.

one good defense from a punch/kick that you dont have any idea where its going to but you know what side of the body is a full side protection....if the attack is goin to your right side lift your right knee up midbody-ish keep your foot pointed straight down, then place your right elbow ontop of your knee with your arm striaght up. this should block your ribs, stomach, lower body with your shin, and your upper body chest, neck and head with your arm.

Magical 'talismans' (gym badges) are necessary to control many of them.

Many Pok茅mon have paranormal or psychic powers. These powers are not stated to be derived from God and therefore, according to certain Christian doctrine, must stem from Satan (although this is not stated either).

Many Pok茅mon embody or practice Asian spiritual and mystical concepts. For example, some practice martial arts, which some Christian groups denounce as a gateway to pagan religions. The game world also incorporates Asian traditions about elemental forces.

No. Pokemon is the greatest show to evr be created. EVER.
"So Pokemon is santanic "

I didn't know Carlos Santana had anything to do with Pokemon

But in all seriousness. If you want to believe that anything is SATANIC, that is your own business. If you don't want to believe that, then that is your own business too. However, I am not the type of person that will call someone or something a satan worshiper or satanic just because it's something I don't understand or don't believe in.
omg are you serious? and i guess the telly tubbies are gay right?
I would think that those were really good points if I was a Jesus freak. But fortunally I'm not and I'll continue to hug my cute little Torchic doll and laugh in the faces of all the people who belive anything you just said.

%26lt;33333
I was sad about this when I found it out cause my grandson just loved them! We both found out about the same time and he lost interest shortly after a tobad thing. As for it being on tv everything goes on it sadly.
well if you take into account its only a cartoon,no it shouldn't be off the air.
i've never really watched it, but i love squirtle and psyduck and um.. growlithe? the fox thingy with a few tails.

it's great and every kid should watch it.. too bad i'm not a kid or i'd watch it every day
i think that everyone should stop trying to controll everybody else. maybe it is maybe its not who cares, teach your own kids your beliefs and leave mine alone!!!
Well, sounds like you live in the US... and in the US, I believe there were these amendment things on some paper written by some guys back about 230 ago or so... something about freedom of religion.. and these other "federalist" type papers about "separation of church and state".

Sarcasm aside, no, it's silly to have something removed from the air waves just because it doesn't perfectly align with another's religion. Isn't the US "suppozedly" fighting a war in the mideast to prevent these types of things from happening in other countries? That would be a bit hypocritical if they began removing their own TV programs due to religion...

I think the original "poster" is being a bit of an alarmist... if you put your mind to it, you can probably argue anything to be "demonic" and "paganistic" that doesn't directly promote Christianity. If you true believe this about the show, do as another poster said they did, simply cease watching and supporting it... but I wouldn't recommend infringing on other's rights to view what they choose based off of your own beliefs.
Not one of those things you've said actually has anything to do with Satanism. Paranormal abilities and psychic powers aren't Satanic. Asian religion and paganism have nothing to to with Satanism. Talismans and stones have nothing to do with Satanism. Even the concept of 'demons' as used by the Pokemon creators, magical creatures embodying principles of nature or human civilizations (similiar to elves, fairies, animal totems or even angels) has nothing to do with Satanism.

Before you make wild accusations, perhaps you should find out what the term you're using actually means.
Santanic, huh? I thought it would've been satanic.

The Exclusive Eloquence of the Quran?

The Prophet of Islam began conveying his heavenly messages in the midst of society where people’s minds revolved exclusively around eloquent speech and the composition of beautiful and attractive poetry and literary excellence. Under these conditions, God equipped His prophet with a weapon, the Quran, that apparently belonged to the same category as the literary works of the age but possessed unique and astonishing characteristics that were beyond the capacity of the human being to reproduce.

a) The Role of Poetry in the lives of the Pre-Islamic Arabs

To understand why Muhammad's strongest argument or miracle was a book, the Holy Qur'an, it is necessary to understand the role language and linguistic composition played in the lives of the pre-Islamic Arabs. It is also important to understand the nature of the Arabic language itself during the pre-Islamic period. This understanding will help to show why the revelation of the Qur'an through Muhammad (saww) found attentive ears among his contemporaries, who not only were articulate users of the language but held those skilled in the arts of linguistic composition in high esteem.

Before the rise of Islam, Arabic was mainly a spoken language with an oral literature of elaborate poetry and, to a lesser extent, prose. Writing had not yet fully developed and memorization was the most common means of preserving the literature. Both poetry and prose in the pre-Islamic era dealt with a rather limited range of topics which included in the case of poetry praise, eulogy (panegyric), defamation, and love, and in the case of prose superstition, legends, parables, and wisdom tales.

Pre-Islamic Arabs took great pride in their language and in articulate and accurate speech, the latter being one of the main requisites for social prominence. On this particular point, Professor Hitti writes: “No people in the world manifest such enthusiastic admiration for literary expression and are moved by the word, spoken or written, as the Arabs. Hardly any language seems capable of exercising over the minds of its users such an irresistible influence as Arabic”.

Such was the role that the spoken word played in the life of pre-Islamic Arabs. With the emphasis placed on eloquent and articulate speech, the prominent position occupied by those who had the talent for linguistic composition, and the pride the early Arabs took in their language, it is little wonder that the Qur'an was revealed in the most eloquent, articulate, and elaborate style the Arabic language has known. The Qur'an has without doubt provided a level of linguistic excellence unparalleled in the history of the Arabic language.

Theologians explain this phenomenon as God's wisdom in addressing the articulate Arabs through the medium in which they were most adept and with which they felt most comfortable. The effectiveness of the Qur'an was thus ensured by the fact that it represented a level of eloquence unattainable even by their most eloquent speakers.

b) Miracles should be relevant to the time

God offered the Qur'an as the Prophet's sign in the same way as He offered signs for all the other prophets. He sent the things most appropriate to the time in which they were sent. Thus Prophet Musa (as) had the power to divide the sea with his hand and rod, and to let the rock burst forth with water in the desert, and all his other signs in a time of magic. And Prophet Issa (as) had the power to bring the dead back to life, to make birds out of clay, to cure those who had been blind from birth and the leprous, and all his other signs in a time of medicine. And Prophet Muhammad (saww) had the book and all his other signs in a time of eloquence.

If the Prophet had performed some miracle other than the Quran, it would have no meaning for that people, given their mental structure. The path would have been open for all kinds of doubt and hesitation. But the Arabs of that age who were addressed by the Quran could never have any doubts about its extraordinary eloquence, for they were all aware of all the mysteries of rhetoric and had living among them masters of language and literary composition, hence their admitting that the Quran could not have been the production of Prophet Muhammad (saww).

I really like this girl!?

Okay, she's Chinese, like an Asian beauty or something. She is seriously talented. She can play the piano, violing, guitar, flute. A couple of Chinese instruments, can't remember, she invited the whole grade over to her birthday and she played on all these instruments. And the Japanese flute, sounds so cool! she made like this whole orchestra, she's got a stage for performing in her house! It's like a hall. Wow! And she can write chinese calligraphy, she gave everyone a present and their names were written in Chinese calligraphy on the wrapping paper, she wrote it herself and the english names are under it. She's 15 and I'm 16, she skipped a grade. And she's really really smart! In mathematics so far she's been getting100% for all the tests etc. For English it's always higher than 95%. In science she's got 100% for everything too. And the rest she's also got 95% and above. Amazing! Her art is really good. Can paint everyone almost exactly the way they look but more beautiful, with a

okay but you need to look a little deeper into her. Just because she can do all these things on the outside, doesnt mean she's a wonderful person inside. She may be the brattiest, vane girl in the world. Or she may be the nicest, most generous loving person in the world. If you like her- become better friends with her. Becoming friends is a great way to get to know someone. But there is a point when you can ask her out....If you still like her. If she starts coming to you with really big things like deep dark secrets, that means she trusts you and that is the main key in a relationship.

Its all about time.

Woah man thats a perfect girl. Get some conversations with her if shes good at english. Get to know her then ask for her email/phone no. etc. After you build enough confidence ask if you are the kind of girl she would date. Later ask her out officially.
Yeah I have a girl like that in my school cept she's a little younger. She's so smart she's has to go to the highschool just to go to math class. She's chinese too.
try to be her friend and take a lot of interest in her music. ask her a lot of questions about music which she would appreciate. once you do become her friend, then you can ask her out.
She sounds really talented and pretty. But just because you don't play as many instruments and everything doesn't mean you don't have a chance. Just bring her aside one day and tell her that you like her and see where it goes.
HER DESCRIPTION MAKES HER CHARACTER LIKE a little genious, but i belief that dont keep you off your toes, cos relationship is bout giv n take, care, love, and she might not have, even if she has got ,try urs ,it might be better

TO be honest it is a dying martial art. If you really want to teach it and keep it going go to japan and learn from the masters. Then come back and help people learn it for real in the us. When the student is ready the teacher will appear.

http://www.ninjutsu.com/home.shtml

two of the best starting places. Good Luck
Ninjutsu is very hard to find because since it has been so secretive no one is able to tell whats real and whats not. i recommend actually going to the origins and not some school in the US
I know a good friend who did Ninjutsu in Rhode Island. Since it's so small, I'm sure you'll be able to find the school there.
Yes, I saw that episode. The so-called ninja was as surprised as anyone that he was taken seriously and his heart punch did register as deadly.

The truth is probably the original Ninjitsu line was most likely broken if it ever existed. There is no evidence that it did.

There are other styles that people have created based on what they think the style of the ninja was. You can find them by searching for Ninja schools, Ninjitsu, and other various spellings and keywords. If you are willing to pay the money to learn it, someone is willing to take your money to teach it.
Hi there

You can learn a modern day variant based on the methods of the historical ninja. You need to look for a registered shidoshi of either the bujinkan, genbukan or jinenkan. There is also the SKH Quest centres in the US but to be honest i would only look at the Bujinkan or Jinenkan as these two stick to the original ryu ha. Finding a good instructor is difficult in this art.

You will find out like most of the people training that really the only way to progress is to train in Japan as often as you can.

Best wishes

Idai
I go to a school that teaches it here in VA.
Firstly you would need a good grounding in some other martial art there are (try not to gasp to much) lots of hints and tips on Utube, okay a lot of funnies too. Yet some are serious enough and if you contacted the originator that might help. Admitedly 'nothing' beats having a teach in a class setting but this would get you started, wild idea so hope it helps in some way

Finding an inv. banking job 2?

I posted a similar question a week ago, but I missed some details about me and the true nature of my inquiry. As I mentioned, I have graduated a private American liberal arts university in my country (which is Bulgaria) and I am currently working for the investment banking department of a local medium-size bank. I won from the green card DV lottery and if everything goes normally and as planned (hopefully), I think that will be leaving for the US in August 2008 as the latest time possible. My previous question was, “What are my chances of getting a job for some of the largest inv. banks in the USA (and the world), such as Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and Solomon Smith Barney”? Some of you gave me an advice to start working for some of their offices in my country. Unfortunately none of those inv. banks have offices in Bulgaria. Moreover there is no single institution in my country, which could call itself an investment bank. Those services are performed by the investment banking departments of commercial banks and by small financial brokerage firms, as none of them could call itself a “major player”.

I think that I have not posed the question in the right way. It is clear that my chances of getting such a job will be low. I would rather want to ask you, what I can do in meantime to increase my chances for success? Can you recommend me any books, web-pages or something similar containing information on the whole process of applying for an inv. bank from the initial CV to the final interview? Is it possible to contact the US offices of those inv. banks even before I physically arrive in the USA, right after I receive the immigrant visa? They will not be able to interview me, but I can still make some tests or whatever over the web. As some of you mentioned, the CVs of all foreign applicants do resemble each other. They have graduated unknown university and have worked for unknown employer. What do you think would contain a CV, which would set apart a foreign applicant if not from the US applicants, but at least from the other foreign applicants? I visited some world conferences on Business and Economics and published a paper with my Finance professor, but I don’t think that this will matter that much to them.

I know that it fill be extremely difficult, but I think that if someone constantly pursues his dream sooner or later it happens.

Finding an inv. banking job 2?opera score

As someone who has worked on Wall Street and very familiar with banks such as Goldman, Merrill Lynch etc.. it really depends on what you are looking to do. If you are looking to get into the Investment Banking program, doing a rotation of various jobs such as structured debt, mergers and aquisitions etc... you not only need to come out of a highly prestigious undergrad program, but have amazing grade as well. The paper you publisehd will make a difference and here is why. Everyone in the running for the Investment Banking program has amazing grades, comes from a top school and is considered the cream of the crop. The paper is something that sets you apart from the rest of them, if you get an interview with any of them bring it with you. In the Investment Banking program you will work for two years and than attend business school to get your MBA. After you graduate you can get a job with any investment bank and make very good money, but at the same time have a horrible quality of life. You will work well over 80 hours a week, probably some weekends and if you ever want to have a family I would advise you to use the firms like Goldman as a resume builder before business school and after business school get a job with a small firm that has a work life balance.

Here is my advice to you. If you really want to get in with a large investment bank, it does not mean you have to do hardcore investment banking. You can get a job with them in compliance, mutual funds, marketing etc... Get your foot in the door, make a name for yourself and move up.

To answer your question about contacting them before you get to the US, I would say to contact them and just introduce yourself. On the other hand they get thousands of resumes a day, so if you are going to contact them make sure your impression will be long lasting.

i got kind of confused with all of your questions but due to the fact that my plan is to be an investment banker, i know wall street bankers and I know recruiters, I think i am qualified to give an answer. The truth is, its hard enough for US citizens with prestige MBA's to get a job with one of those firms. in addition, they have cut down new hiring alot. Unless you have an MBA from Harvard, columbia or wharton, its hard to get a job like that these days
I strongly urge you to consider getting an MBA. If you can not get into one of the schools mentioned in the above answer, try Chicago, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Stanford, or Michigan. When you have your MBA look for a job again. Things may have changed. Also, consider a venture capital firm.

There's a guy in my art class.. he's got a real good personality, he has about 10 friends who are girls..he seems modest.. but he's confident..as he's gained lots from performing in a band I think.

I haven't talked to him as yet.. as I grew up being used to the fact I just can't talk to people who I think may be better than me..

I think about him alot..and anytime I'm around him I just wanna hold him..

You need to work on your confidence. Don't be so hard on yourself. Is it possible for a loud guy to like a quiet girl? Of course, why not? Ever hear the saying, opposites attract? Just build up your confidence and talk with him, and maybe you will find that he feels the same way. You won't know, until you take that 'first' step. Good luck!

i was thinking earlier today about how much of a good person i am. in my point of view, people dont thank me for all the things that i provide to others. the people should thank me for providing fire.without fire, many tasks cannot be performed. i try to do my best to provide things in such a dangerous process to make life easier for the people. i take so many risks and in return i have my own titans against me. the titans actually took me to the god so that i can get eaten by eagles day after day. i dont see why it is wrong to share fire? i gave men knowledge of the so-called arts of civilization such as writing, mathematics, agriculture. medicine and science. many of my teaching has helped the people in many situations.

Is there a better fighting unit in the US arsenal than a MAGTF? (Marine Air-Ground Task Force)?

if there is, i dont know of it. the largest MAGTF is the MEF (Marine Expeditionary Force) which consists of a reinforced division, a whole air wing, and a FSSG (Force Service Support Group), and a command element. what makes a MAGTF unique is, that it comes together under one commander. the Marines brings together sea, air, and land elements together as a work of art. a MAGTF (pronounced mag-taf) can perform amphibious operations and air assaults. so my question is, what other units in the US arsenal who have air, land, and sea capabilities under one commander, not a board of flag officers at a level beyond the division level?

NONE BETTER. THE CONCEPT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BEAT.
I think they are the worlds best , I have seen them save the Army Rangers many times , so don't give me this B.S.Rangers are so great. But they are good fighters as long as every thing goes by the book but, the marines know how to improvise,
I don't think there are any better fighting forces than the MAGTF but we have other forces that are just as good. MAGTF might disagree with this but we have some of the best fighting men in the world today if the politicians would step back and turn them loose.
Although very shady, and officially denied, Delta force is a top-notch special forces team that is similar to the Navy Seals, however much more efficient.

Oh, you mean on a bigger scale. I have never heard of anything of equal or better ability than the MAGTF, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything that we as civilians don't know about.
For what they do, there's none better, but I'd be careful with the generalization. If all you have is a hammer, all problems begin to look like nails. In the modern world, there's an ever-expanding range of problems requiring special tools for special problems.

(I'd also like to say that the concept "every Marine a rifleman" pays off in the coordination of ground, air, and sea elements.)
Yes, any airborne or air assault division in the army.
